Welcome
Georgetown University has been working to build a new boathouse on the Potomac River for many years. Located near the Key Bridge, the boathouse will beautify and enhance access to the waterfront and provide new and modernized facilities for Georgetown crew. A new Georgetown boathouse will reduce overcrowding at Thompson Boat Center, allowing other local rowing teams greater space for their programs.
BOATHOUSE UPDATE
On December 3, 2007, the National Park Service issued a Federal Register notice announcing initiation of Environmental Impact Statement. Learn more about the process:
Committed to a Shared Future
- The Georgetown boathouse will beautify and increase public access to that area of the waterfront.
- Georgetown University presently rows out of Thompson Boat Center along with a dozen area high schools, including Wilson High School, whose team Georgetown University helped to found over 20 years ago. As the National Park Service Environmental Assessment points out, moving Georgetown's rowing program out of Thompson Boat Center would reduce the overcrowding that currently exists, allowing the high schools greater space at Thompson.
- The boathouse design strikes the right balance between minimizing the visual impact of the building from the towpath while assuring that the facility will accommodate the training and coaching needs of the Georgetown Crew Program.
